 This village was once visited by the famous painter Winston Churchill, who painted a picture of Câmara de Lobos bay and where a statue was erected in his honor. In Câmara de Lobos, the viewpoint where Winston Churchill set up his painting easel is now named after him. It all started on vacation, on January 1, 1950, the date on which he arrived in Madeira with his wife, the emblematic Lady Clementine.
